Appointment reminders can be snoozed for 5min. This is often too short to be useful. It would be good to have preference to set default snooze to 15min BUT also when the reminder pops up on screen, being able to use up/down to keys to select other snooze options like 1hr, 1day. etc. Microsoft Outlook has this feature pretty well worked out and I think Symbian and learn from this.

Ability to open a link on a web page in a new browser window. On the E90 this could happen by ctrl-clicking the link. Or use the same context menu as already implemented on the 9500 communicator.

This feature is highly useful for checking links on a long page, such as a blog archive page, without loosing your position. Another advantage would be the ability to have the other page load in the background while reading another page.

Yves

The browser on S60 is just great. One missing feature is a true fullscreen mode, without any toolbar, titlebar nor statusbar.

Even now you can set it to be fullscreen but strangely, on E70, in landscape-mode, there are still title- and statusbar, and in portrait-mode only the titlebar. I have seen the same strange behaviour on N95.

Stop wasting our precious screen-real-estate! :-)

When you choose "Back" in the S60 browser, it goes to the previous page. However, it returns you to the top of the page (at least in N95), and you have to scroll back down to get where you were. This gets tiring especially if you're reading news sites with lots of articles.

The browser should remember where it was and scroll to that location automatically.

Old Nokia phones (pre-S60) let you press a number as a shortcut for a menu option, so you could memorize your most often used commands (such as menu-1-3 to send a text message).

On S60, some of the 3rd party vendors also have these, such as Google's applications or Opera.

They drastically cut down the time needed to navigate through the user interface, especially with the multi-level menu horrors that the modern programs have.

It's currently impossible to get the current URL from the web browser to clipboard. This makes using bookmark services such as del.icio.us and ma.gnolia.com very hard. We need a menu function like "Copy current URL to clipboard" or somehting like that.

Email Client Overhaul

Office, Email and Synchronization

NickAnstee

The S60 Email client badly needs an overhaul, it does not handle IMAP accounts properly and it does not handle in-line HTML messages. Suggested improvements: 1) Implement in-line HTML viewing without having to open the attachment as per current functionality. 2) Enable downloading of entire message and any attachments for IMAP accounts without having to download each message manually. 3) Enable the ability to move emails between any subscribed folders, at present this is not possible. ProfiMail is a great example of the functionality required.

1) It would be great if there were more (and flexible) keypad shortcuts in the default Nokia application like messaging. Currently you have to go into the option menu to mark an email as read for instance, this should be a one click action.

2) We really need a simple overview of all the currently available keypad shortcuts (especialy for the Nokia E61i)

Eseries devices have connection groups, Nseries devices still don't. And even this makes it too difficult to really use your WLAN.

Hide pointer in Browser

Browsing and internet

Lasse

The S60 browser has the "mouse pointer" on the screen all the time, covering text I'd like to read at the middle of the screen. The pointer becomes slightly transparent occasionally (after scrolling a lot?), but then becomes visible again if I happen to scroll over a link.

So it should be possible to get rid of the cursor when you don't need it.

Use case: Try reading a long Wikipedia article.

It should be possible to disable an access point so that the applications could not use it even if they wanted to.

As data charges during roaming are still hideous, I disable all data traffic from my phone when going abroad. This means disabling automatic e-mail retrieval, telling Maps not to use the network, disabling A-GPS, ...

It would be much easier to just select the internet access point and disable the data connections from one location.

Contact list could show some extra information about the user modes. "not receiving calls" - Icon could shown example when user changes his phone mode to silent. Mode could be shown at the first before name as an icon, like the usual instant messaging softwares. Then the contact list could be sorted that those who are "on-line" are in list first. (this is more than issue of S60 development - i know, because the gsm/3g-link or data-connection should update/push contact list mode data and that will require that the server uphold user contact data) The icon could show also when the user is near the location where you are (this would require from service provider to get phones location data all time - phone GPS not required!) Ideas gives users more nice information by what you can plan a instant meeting, send sms/e-mail or decide to make a call. I assume that this would form a new more efficient culture to work and interact with people.

I would love 'Points of Interest (POI)' in Nokia Maps to be interactive. If I go to a pub/bar or restaurant it would be good to be able to rate it or see how others have rated it. Some POI's are not even listed so if I or someone else adds a POI (such as bar) to their Nokia Maps they should have the option to upload that so it can be updated if I search for the same thing innthat area.

The current N-series gallery is just awful. You cannot find anything, it's slow and looks bad.

There should be easy ways to search and sort video and images according to shooting time, size and type. I would prefer MS Outlook type of list, where you items are grouped to folders e.g. according to shooting date and you can expand/collapse folder.

Currently it is very hard to use S60 to call to a busy number. At the moment, you you can find automatic redialing from phone settings, but you can not use automatic redialing at the same time with the loud speaker support.

It would be nice to let the phone on the table making calls to the busy number, and having the loud speaker to be on all the time.

Users' usage of various functions vary, and it would be useful to be able to customize the available shortcuts to functions and applications in the system. Also, the absolute number of available shortuts is regrettably small in the current system design which revolves around the "palmtop" menu.
For example, I miss the possibilty to have a shortcut to the calculator, to the call log, to the alarm clock, to the calendar, to name a few.

I'm thinking it might be nice to have a list of 'frequently used WIFI access points' that the phone will make use of when a networked app comes alive. IE: When you open up the web browser (or any other app) and you are in reception of one of the frequently used access points the phone automatically selects that AP - rather than nagging the user to select their connection.

I can understand this might be a security concern (spyware etc...) but perhaps give the user a choice to enable the option for specific applications.

Support for more than 2 softkey buttons

UI and usability

Curry

The 9500 is a tremendously better phone than E90 simply because you can launch the most probable function with one button press. In E90, the two softkeys are consumed in Cancel and Menu, neither of which is typically even close to the user's goal. If s60 would support multiple optional softkeys, E90 could have had at least 4 softkeys in the inside thus enabling the software developers to assign the most typical functions (reply, send, ... - depends on the context) to the optional softkeys.

Say, if I have three different music players on my device, all capable of playing Shoutcast streams, it would be lovely to be able to select which of them to use when clicking a .m3u or .pls link.
Timo Riikonen

For many years I have preferred to use Nokia before other phones. But especially with the latest E50, I was disappointed with.
Some of those selections or small tricks are missing: one that comes to my mind now is that you were able to disable autotyping by pressing twice on the left button.
Another, I don't remember where, was when I am doing something, I want to store the number in phone book or something similar. Very basic place for that and the choice is missing.
Third one that you have never had is being able to record the phone conversation.

In overall the useability of
