Mobile Internet and intranet

S60 includes a built-in web browser based on the WebCore and JavaScriptCore open source components that are used by Apple's Safari Internet browser. These components, in turn, are based on KDE's Konqueror open source project. With innovative navigational features and superior web compliance, browsing big web pages on a small screen becomes fast and easy.

The S60 browser lets corporations deploy IT services in the mobile environment using standard web technologies. Many IT solutions already offer web interfaces, and corporate intranets are typically used to sharing information and accessing IT services such as the phone book or meeting room reservations. With S60 browser, existing web interfaces can also be used in the mobile environment.

Synchronization

Calendar, email , contacts and notes of the S60 devices can be synchronized over-the-air remotely with a server or locally with a PC, using OMA Data Synchronization technology. Over-the-air remote synchronization requires that a server that supports OMA Data Synchronization v1.2 is installed in the network. For local synchronization, a synchronization application, such as PC suite, needs to be installed on the PC. This application is typically delivered with the S60 device, or the application could be pre-installed on the PC. In local synchronization, several Microsoft and Lotus PIM systems are supported.

Architectural Compliancy with IT Environments

S60 software includes support for standard Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, and POP3/IMAP4. This eases the integration of S60 devices with the enterprise networks. In addition, the S60 software also includes support for web service standards that can be used to integrate S60 devices with a Microsoft .Net environment.

Management of S60 Devices

S60 software includes advanced device management features that can be used to manage different components of the S60 devices over-the-air. With advanced device management administrators can:

S60 based device can be locked remotely also via SMS, without any device management systems.
