Information on the go

With the help of S60 the user can have seamless access to their email virtually anywhere. It can be used to access any standard, compliant Inbox and also offers multiple options for on-demand and automatic email retrieval. S60 email gives the user the freedom to choose when and how they wish to receive their emails.

The S60 email client is available from the phonebook and other messaging applications. It has comprehensive attachment support and S60 office viewers can be used to open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Images, videos, and other media content can be accessed easily by email. Third party applications which support the Send As menu option can also use the email platform - giving users a fast and effective way to send content over email.

In S60 3rd Ed FP2, the mail editor introduces a graphical toolbar—a great new way to create email with more than just text. The user can call the email sender or write a message to the sender directly from the mail viewer, if the phonebook has a contact with both the sender's mail address and phone number.

Operators and service providers can use the S60 OMA email notification (available in S60 3rd Ed FP1) to offer real push email experience with optimal network bandwidth usage. Active data connection is only required when delivering email data. Operators act as email aggregators, giving users fluid access to existing inboxes.

The new features related to OMA DS are covered in the S60 Platform 3rd Edition Overview »

The S60 standard offering can be extended with third party email solutions such as Intellisync, RIM, Visto, Seven, iAnywhere, or Altexia. These solutions offer optimized user experience and functionality for enterprise use and other dedicated market segments.
